Welcome

Welcome to All the difference — counselling, psychotherapy, skills development and group facilitation for adults, businesses and community groups, based in Eltham and offered online or in person.

Counselling or psychotherapy — what's the difference?

Counselling tends to focus on a specific, identifiable concern using well-evidenced tools. Psychotherapy works more broadly on your emotional, mental, and relational patterns — often at a level beneath the presenting issue and what gave rise to it. Which fits depends on your circumstances and what you're looking for, and we can talk that through together.

What I offer

  • Individual counselling & psychotherapy — 60- or 90-minute sessions, in person (Eltham) or by videoconference. Home/hospital visits available where travel to my office is impractical. Walk-and-talk sessions are available where appropriate and once we've established a working relationship.

  • Skills for life — a six-month program teaching the mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation and interpersonal effectiveness skills of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT).

  • Men's circle — an ongoing monthly support group for men.

  • Group facilitation for organisations — workshops for businesses (competitive rates) and community groups (discounted rates).

I don't currently offer couples/partners therapy, or work with children or adolescents — though I do work with individuals navigating relationships including people preparing for couples/partners or family work elsewhere.

Individual counselling/ psychotherapy session pricing

  • 60-minute session: $120

  • 90-minute session: $170

  • Travel costs: as agreed

I reserve a number of sessions each week at discounted rates for renters, NDIS recipients, neurodivergent people, and men fleeing domestic abuse — get in touch to discuss.

Many people find working with me cost-effective, given that they ultimately seek more than the ten sessions a Mental Health Care Plan will fund.

About Andrew

Hi – I hold a Master of Counselling and Psychotherapy (Holistic Practice), Metavision Institute — PACFA-accredited. I’m currently completing further specialist postgraduate training in Gestalt Therapy through Gestalt Sydney.

My work draws on approaches including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) , Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Process Work (Process Oriented Psychology), and Gestalt Therapy — tailored to fit the person and their concerns — andd not pushing the person to fit any fixed technique.

I also offer Written Exposure Therapy (WET), specifically for people suffering Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and complex PTSD (cPTSD).

Before training as a therapist, I spent years training and working in the Australian Army and in engineering and project management roles across Australia and internationally.

I, myself, am neurodivergent, and understand how everyday life, systems and expectations can stack additional challenges for people whose nervous systems are built a little differently. I also bring lived understanding of addiction, serious health diagnoses, and grief in its various forms.

Issues I help with

  • Stress & overwhelm

  • Fear, phobias & anxiety

  • Depression, loneliness, loss of connection

  • Relationships — partners, friends, workplaces

  • Grief & loss

  • Trauma — single events (PTSD) or accumulated/complex (cPTSD) from accidents, disasters, crime, bullying, abuse, exclusion, neglect

  • Self-harm, distress tolerance & emotional regulation

  • Life transitions — health, mobility, changing circumstances

  • Addictive tendencies and their root causes — alcohol & other drugs (AOD)*, gambling, pornography, shopping, conflict-seeking

  • Support for neurodivergent clients, and those who care for or manage them

* I don’t work with clients who actively use violence towards others or who actively use alcohol or other drugs — get in touch and we can talk about whether now's the right time or find you the right support in the meantime.
